Om Prakash*, Ritika Srivastava, Rajesh Kumar, Shiv

The aim of the present study to evaluate preliminary pharmacognostic investigation of leaves of Artocarpus heterophyllus were carried for organoleptic parameters followed by evaluation based on morphological, mi-croscopical, physicochemical, phytochemical and chro-matogrphical characteristics. The Artocarpus hetero-phyllus lam. is a species of tree of the mulberry family Moraceae, known by other names jackfruit (English) and kathal (Hindi) reported to possess antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antidiabetic, antioxidant and immunomodulation properties. Artocarpus heterophyllus is an important source of chemicals of morin, dihydromorin, cynomacurin, artocarpin, isoartocaepin, cyloartocarpin, artocarpesin, oxydihydroartocarpesin, artocarpetin, norartocarpetin, cycloartinone, betulinic acid, artocarpanone and heterophylol which are useful in fever, boils, wounds, skin diseases, convulsions, diuretic, constipation, ophthalmic disorder and snake bite.
